Here's an idea for a birthday party that's not quite the norm. Maybe not for large gatherings (unless, of course, you have lots of money - smile), but do-able for a small group. Sounds like it might be fun to me! :)
Throw a "backwards" party for yourself - invite a few friends to come over for dinner. Then switch it around and make it all about them! You prepare and serve the meal, choose the games, and then surprise them with a simple and inexpensive gift/treat when they leave. Make them feel special! You get the joy of fellowship and fun without being the main center of attention, and you get the blessing of giving!
Maybe not the typical way of doing things, but hey, living extremely is about being different sometimes and being more like Jesus, right? Life isn't really "all about me" anyway, like we tend to act. And it is more blessed to give than to receive!
