The other night, I spent some time with friends around their firepit, roasting marshmallows and making s'mores. We laughed and talked, told stories, and just had a good time of fellowship. There's something cozy and comforting about a fire.
Did you ever notice?...coals that are piled together glow longer than a single coal by itself. A coal by itself has no other source of heat to draw from and will quickly cool and go out. But as long as it remains in the midst of the flames, it will never go out.
People are the same way. God never intended for us to go through life alone. According Proverbs 27:17, "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend." And Ecclesiastes 4:10-12 says, "Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken." To help us grow and continue to stay inspired and on track in our "extreme life", we need to surround ourselves with others who have common goals, the same passion and desire for God. Make yourself accountable to someone in areas where you are struggling. That may go against an independent spirit or personality, but to have an "extreme life', we must start thinking outside the box and learn to follow God's thoughts. Don't seek out people who don't care about doing right and following God. You might as well pour water on your fire.
A Word Of Warning: While you should surround yourself with Godly people, don't depend on another person's spirituality. Others make mistakes and WILL fail at times. You cannot base your walk with God on others' successes. You must learn to stand on your own feet spiritually. You must be able to stand alone if need be. Only God can keep you from falling. Stay in the Word, and you will be strong.
