Are You A Part-Time Follower?

Think about the person you trust the most. You share your most intimate feelings with them. You go to them for counsel, you share problems and joys. What if just ONE time they messed up and told someone something you didn't want known. Maybe it was an accident; they weren't deliberately being mean. They just didn't think. Hopefully you would forgive them, but would you think twice the next time you shared something special with them?

So why do we think it's ok to do that with God? We think if we make the right choices or obey Him most of the time, He'll forgive the rest of it.

Check out what He says about that:
  • “O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!” Deuteronomy 5:29
  • “I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.” Psalm 16:8
  • “Rejoice in the Lord alway…” Philippians 4:4
  • “Giving thanks always for all things…” Ephesians 5:20
  • “Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” Col. 4:6
  • “I have inclined mine heart to perform thy statutes alway, even unto the end.” Ps. 119:112
  • Always abounding in the work of the Lord.” 1 Cor. 15:58
  • “Praying always with all prayers and supplication…”
  • “Men ought always to pray, and not to faint.” Luke 18:1
  • “Be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:” (“Let the redeemed of the Lord say so…”) 1 Pet. 3:15
Jesus Himself said, “And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.” John 8:29
Paul the Apostle said, “For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers;” Romans 1:9

Always: every time; on every occasion; without exception. (dictionary.com)

We'll never be perfect until we arrive in Heaven, but we can always be growing and improving. We wouldn't want a “part-time” friend or “part-time” god. What if we came to God in an emergency, and just one time, He wasn't listening? Or He was on vacation? That won't happen because our God is faithful. Faithful: true to one's word, promises, vows, etc.; steady in allegiance or affection; loyal, constant; reliable, trusted, or believed. (dictionary.com) So why would we think God is okay with a “part-time” follower? Let's all work on being faithful, every time. So thankful God's "been faithful, faithful to me".
